The Sleeping Love - September 8, 1989 by Laura Knight
Eyes shut and grin relaxed,
Arms folded, cushioning his head,
Breathing softly, an easy task,
Unconscious to what was said.
Looking so peaceful, so calm,
Resting his mind and body until the bell sounds.
"Wake me up when it's time to go."
He smiled at me, gazed into my eyes,
That look of his took me by surprise.
I smiled in return and hid my emotions.
His eyes shut and he became motionless.
I didn't want to wake him
But it was time to leave,
I tapped him on the shoulder
Then tugged on his sleeve.
He fluttered his eyes and released his smile
But lifting his head took him awhile.
The bell rang, he left without a glance.
My heart sank, would I ever get a chance…
He stopped at the door with a widespread grin,
"'Til next we meet, 'til then."
